Scotland! Day Two: William Wallace Monument and Glen Coe Part 1

What an amazing view! This is at the William Wallace monument. On the hike up to the tower, we stopped and took this picture. I've already been to the monument, so this was more interesting for me. Above is a panorama of this same landscape.

Stirling Castle! We drove through the town of Stirling on the way to the William Wallace Monument. Since Sterling is a family name, I felt it was significant haha

This is Glen Coe. Glen is the Scottish word for valley. Millions of Years ago, a giant volcano erupted, and the mountain caved in, creating a huge valley. During the ice age, a glacier filled the valley and when it melted, it smoothed out the surfaces. That's why the mountains in Scotland are so smooth and wave-like. It is also part of the oldest mountain range in the world. Today, Glen Coe is a national monument protected by the government.
Glen Coe is also the site of the McDonald Massacre. To make a long story short, William of Orange didn't like the McDonald clan, and sent another clan to kill them all. Before they did, however, they were guests of the McDonalds, and the event was seen as a severe disrespect of traditional Scottish hospitality. Thankfully, a lot of the McDonald clan escaped and survived.
